| First step is making sure there were fresh spark plugs and
plug wires. I put OEM plugs in, and got a set of Orange, Hi-Temp wires
from AB Custom Spark Plug Wires. |
 |
| Plugs and wires done, time to remove the airbox, hoses, radiator
cover, etc. |
|
| I'm also swapping out the stock air intake with another one
that I had powdercoated to match the stripes on the car. So throttlebodies,
linkages, cable, air bypass, vacuum lines removed, etc. come off. Injector
plugs get labeled so I don't foget what went where. |
|
| Disconnected fuel line to air intake, removed bolts and away
it goes. |

|
|
| Fuel injectors were sent out to be cleaned and flow tested.
New o-rings installed. New intake gaskets, etc. Powdercoated air intake
bolted on and torqued to factory specs. |
 |
| Vacuum lines and throttle cable reconnected. Upper radiator
hose removed. |
 |
| Power steering pump and bracket removed. |
 |
| Everything disconnected from the front bumper, and the front
bumper removed. No small task. |

|
| Charcoal canister had to be moved up about an inch and a
half. Then aftercooler reservoir and electric water pump were assembled
and installed. |
 |
| Crankshaft pulley was removed, then out comes the harmonic
balancer bolt (it is installed with 250 ft/lbs of torque). Harmonic balancer
then removed with a puller. New Paxton shock tower brace brackets intalled. |

|
|
| I switched to an ATI Harmonic Balancer. Here you can see
the hub of the balancer re-installed on the crank shaft. The Viper balancers
are not keyed, and will spin with a supercharger. So Paxton asks you to
drill two holes through the balancer and crank shaft, and hammer in pins.
Roe Racing sells a similar, but more beefy pin kit, so here you see an
ATI balancer hub pinned with a Roe Racing pin kit. Wasn't really as terrible
a job as people make it out to be, so long as you have the right tools.
I used a small air drill to get in there with... |
 |
| and a super huge torque wrench! The Gearwrench torque wrench
will crank a bolt up to 600 ft/lbs. It's 45 inches long and weighs 28
lbs!!! It removed the crankshaft bolt so easily I thought it was loose. |

New ATI dampner fully installed, along with crankshaft pulleys (one
for the serpantine belt and one for the blower). Paxton supercharger
bracket installed. New Paxton powersteering line to make room for the
blower bracket. New powersteering pulley from Big Brake Dave because
they factory PS pulleys are plastic and tend to shatter with a blower
installed. Serpantine belt re-intalled.
Don't waste your time trying to install a powersteering pulley with
a crappy Kragen tool, btw, just doesn't work.
|
 |
| The water cooler for the aftercooler is installed and the
water hoses run through the car. |
 |
| Novi 2000 supercharger installed onto the bracket... mostly.
One of the 4" spacers was missing. Had to call Paxton and have them
send me another. |
 |

|
|
| Oil feed line installed on blower. New Paxton radiator hose
installed. I cut the first those into three pieces, then realized it was
only supposed to be cut into two. Found a comprable hose at Kragen the
same weekend. |
 |
| Throttle bodies re-installed with new gaskets. Air bypass
valve reinstalled with a new gasket. Strut tower brace installed. |
 |
| Aftercooler assembled and installed. |
 |
|

|
|
| Small aftercooler resevoir (filler) installed, uninstalled,
and moved down an inch and a half for hood clearance. Air inlet and filter
installed onto the blower. Couplers installed joining aftercooler to throttle
bodies (the supplied Paxton ones didn't fit, I found better ones on ebay
anyhow). |
 |
| Paxton timing controller installed and wired up. |
 |
| Two additional fuel pumps added in parrallel. FCU installed. |
 |
|

|
|
| Dash cover removed. Replaced crappy autometer LED's with
traditional light bulbs (only the super small LED's are problematic). |
 |
| Installed pillar gauge pod, boost gauge and fuel pressure
gauge. |
 |

|
| Re-installed the front bumper and upper radiator covers.
Dropped the oil pan. Drilled and threaded it, installed the fitting for
the oil return line from the supercharger. Installed new trap doors on
the oil pan. Reinstalled oil pan. Changed the oil filter and re-filled
the motor with oil. Re-connected the battery and re-installed the cover.
Ran the car and found the supercharger oil line to be leaking at both
ends. Tightened fittings and it seems to be o.k. now. Supercharger install
complete. Gonna put some miles on it and get it to a dyno tuner soon.
Meanwhile, I'll be checking for more leaks. |

I built a cold air box and got it bolted on this morning. I made it
out of cardboard first to create a pattern. Then I cut it out of aluminum.
The center is one piece, bent smoothly around from front to back with
a hole for the supercharger intake elbow to pass through and enough
room in the back for air to pass all around the air filter. The side
pieces were cut with extra tabs to be riveted to the center piece. The
inside was painted flat black and the outside was covered with 400 degree
heat sheilding. Wetherstripping seals the box to the hood. Should be
much better.
