This apartment was in the basement of an old Craftsman style house in Seattle. It was completely drab and dingy and cold but it had a yard in the back and, most importantly, it had potential! The coat rack has the same shape and proportions as all the windows in the apartment. The copper cross pieces tie into the copper knobs I put on the kitchen cabinets as well as the pot rack, curtain rod and kitchen caddy rack I made out of copper pipe.
I also put in the crown moulding at the top of the kitchen cabinets and built the rounded shelves at the end of the lower cabinet. The red marble tile backsplash replaced the marbled pink and gray plastic (ugly!) tile backsplash that went from counter to cabinet. I was really pleased with how well I matched the wall texture before repainting. You couldn't tell it had previously been covered in tile glue.
