These three frames are done in flat black on the front and gloss red on the outer edges. The idea behind the black is simple: the frame is secondary to the art it holds. It shouldn't outshine or detract from what's inside. The red, however, is there to add interest and tie back into the painting. What's unique about having it just on the outside edges is that you never see all the red at once. Consequently, you never see too much red at once. As you move around the frame on the wall you get one, maybe two sides visible. Even from the front, there's the red glow of the light bouncing off of the red and onto the wall.
The prints are by R.H. Phister.
