New Corbeau racing seats are the latest addition to the Miata. I thought
I might make custom seat brackets but, with the lumbar support maxed out,
I can reach the clutch a little better than I could in the stock seats. The
trouble with being only 5' tall. :)
The top clears the seats fine, although the seats do redirect a little more
air into the cabin. The bolsters are tight against the doors. The only fitment
issue I really need to solve is making the seat belt easier to get to. They
were moved inward for the roll bar and now need to go outward to get around
the seats!
Miata
came with a sad old tan vinyl top with an opaque plastic window so it was a
huge improvement, putting this Robbins cloth top with a nozip glass window on
it. It folds down with the Hard Dog roll bar just fine, but it does bump the
sides of the roll bar on the way back up. Better pictures coming soon.
This mean looking Hard Dog Sport with double diagonals replaced the chrome
style bar that I bought the car with. Accompanied by some sexy vinyl stripes,
applied by Chris, these mods have taken the Miata much further from being
just another cute little car!
I had to relocate the windscreen and make a custom bracket to hold it against
the top of the roll bar, but I was glad to still be able to use it.
The
silver stripes make the raised bump in the hood more noticable.
Getting ready for the roll bar!
Nothing
much going on here, just clean and shiny. The Miata's paint, when we bought
it, inspired the purchase of a rotary buffer and a clay bar kit. It went from
feeling like it had been sprayed down with AquaNet hair spray to being smooth
as glass!
Chris
redid the vinyl paint on the dash and changed the padded dash and upper door
and speaker covers from tan to black for me. The vinyl paint looks great and
is holding up just fine. I'd like to make a tan and black shift boot one of
these days. Two tone is cool. :)
"While I've got this out..." Miata was stationary at the time while
smog issues were being resolved so it could be registered. This lovely mess
started with just taking off the steering wheel to put the airbag back on.
Next the door panels came off so I could make them two tone and then the dash
really needed to match so I took it out and then, if I had the dash out, I
might as well go ahead and change the dirty tan carpet to black...
Chris looked at the piles of screws and nuts and bolts and all the dangling
wires and was truly frightened. Pa nicknamed it the "planter" for
a while.

Some
of the pictures from the ad I saw the car for sale in. The chrome side mirrors
weren't on the car, they were rusty and in a box. They went on ebay along with:
the steering wheel, chrome fuel cap, chrome vent rings, chrome shift plate,
polished ebrake handle, embarrassingly loud muffler, intake turn signals, style
bar, Jackson Racing gauges, push start button, crappy stereo, and the tan carpet.
I liked the wheels and, most of all, I liked the supercharger and the suspension
upgrades. Those stayed. :)
Finally,
the rain has stopped!. I thought I was back in Seattle for a while. Chris and
I both got outside and washed our toys. I finally managed to unclog the drain
pipe on the passenger's side of the Miata. I had to push through from the inside
of the car - the end result looked like Miata took a
poo!
Too bad I didn't do it soon enough to keep my trunk from growing a layer of
fur...
New
shift boot! I made this on my new industrial sewing machine with Ultraleather.
The boot attatches to the car like the stock boot does but I've modified the
upper part so that the shape lays smoothly and always comes up to the base of
the shift knob.
